Competition SPD2010 - Fingerprint Singular Points Detection
Included in ICIAR 2010 – "International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition", SPD2010 is a worldwide pioneer competition where the aim is to detect singular points (cores and deltas) in fingerprints images. These singular points are the most important topological features of a fingerprint and are extremely important in biometric identification systems based on fingerprint analysis because they make it possible to define the typology of the fingerprint and, at the same time, they constitute the process basis for an automatic identification.

It is hoped that this competition will be the starting point for important contributions on this matter, as well as on image processing and analysis, pattern recognition and machine learning.
The competition will be organised by three INESC Porto researchers (Jaime Cardoso, Hélder Oliveira e Filipe Magalhães), and the reviewing committee also includes another researcher from INESC Porto (Miguel Velhote).
8 January 2010 – Deadline for the competitors pre-registration (more info).
