Innovation by INESC TEC confirms focus on internationalisation
The Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit (UITT) is confirming a clear focus on internationalisation and proof of that is the contracts in Lithuania and in Chile.
INESC TEC Unit Manager is the new Director of CMU Portugal
João Claro, manager of INESC TEC’s Innovation and Technology Transfer Unit (UITT), a position he shares with Alexandra Xavier, is the new director of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal). INESC TEC’s researcher will be taking over João Barros, a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), who had been leading the partnership for the last three years.
INESC TEC co-organises events on Optics and Photonics
The Portuguese Society for Research and Development in Optics and Photonics is organising, in collaboration with INESC TEC and IT-Aveiro, the first Summer School on Recent Advances in Optics and Photonics, to be held between 27 and 29 June at the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (FCUP). As part of this event, INESC TEC is also organising the 10th edition of the Symposium on Enabling Optical Networks and Sensors (SEONS), which takes place on 27 June.
UTM researcher publishes article in international journal
Gustavo Carneiro, a researcher at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) has had an article published in the Computer Networks (COMNET) journal. The title of the article is "Transparent and Scalable Terminal Mobility for Vehicular Networks" and it presents a WiFi network for passengers on public transport with mobile devices.
INESC Porto LA provides tools to aid network reconfiguration in Brazil
The Power Systems Unit (USE) and the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) at INESC Porto LA will be taking part in project SIMULESP (Simulador Especialista de Tempo Real Para Apoio A Decisão), in collaboration with Eletropaulo (São Paulo, Brazil).
INESC TEC promotes autonomy of senior citizens
By the end of June INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) will be concluding the project Living Usability Lab (LUL) – Living Laboratory for the Use of Innovative Technologies in Next Generation Networks, a collaborative R&D project between academia and industry in Portugal. The project aimed to develop technologies that allow senior citizens to become more healthy and active.

The Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) at INESC TEC was invited by Vodafone Portugal to participate in an event, the Wi-Fi Day@VFPT, which took place in 5 and 6 June in Lisbon.
INESC TEC organises Open Day for companies
"Innovation at the Service of Companies" – this was the motto for the Open Day organised jointly by the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) and the Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG), which took place on 21 June at INESC TEC. This event targeted companies in the sector of Information, Communication and Electronics Technologies operating in the global market.

GimmeDaBlues Application wins ZON Creativity in Multimedia 2011 Award
The musical application GimmeDaBlues developed by a team of researchers at INESC TEC won first prize in the category “Multimedia Contents and applications” in the ZON Creativity in Multimedia 2011 Awards. The majority of the team also work closely with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). The award ceremony took place on 31st January at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon.
INESC TEC researcher receives Full Scholarship
Ana Rita Ribeiro, a researcher at INESC TEC’s Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE), was selected to receive a ThorLabs Full Scholarship to participate in the 6th International Graduate Summer School – Biophotonics '13, which will take place between 8 and 15 June in Sweden. Of 70 registrations accepted, the Portuguese researcher was the only one to receive the scholarship that will cover registration and accommodation costs.
European project H-Know draws to a close with excellent results
The Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) attended the final evaluation meeting of Project H-Know – Advanced Infrastructure for Knowledge Based Services for Buildings Restoring on 31st January 2012 in Brussels. According to the evaluators, all project objectives were achieved successfully and the results demonstrate great potential.
INESC TEC shares the Douro Region with the world
The Douro Valley portal is truly innovative as it allows users to choose a place and date for a visit and then see all of the places of interest and events that will be happening nearby, offering dozens of fully geo-referenced itineraries and even offering the possibility to design a route with different places of interest and book the accommodation. This is an intuitive tool, with INESC TEC branding, that will revolutionise tourism in the Douro Valley and strengthen the region’s reputation as a classified World Heritage site (2001 UNESCO).
Intermediate Results of Project REIVE presented at INESC Porto
INESC Porto conducted a public session to present the intermediate results of project REIVE (Smart Grids with Electric Vehicles), hosting the industrial partners and the executive commission for the Fund to Support Financing for Innovation (FAI), Victor Martins, Nuno Lúcio and Pedro Correia.

INESC TEC breast cancer research honoured at Senology Congress
Research in the breast cancer area conducted by researchers from INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) was honored by the Portuguese Senology Society as part of the Senology National Congress, which took place in Porto between 17 and 19 November.

INESC TEC projects distinguished at European level
The European project TWENTIES and the national project InovGrid (led by the EDP Distribution), which include the participation of INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE), were recently distinguished by the European Electricity Grid Initiative (EEGI).
