FiberSensing wins contract with the European Space Agency

In less than a decade FiberSensing won contracts with important international groups. This year, the aim is to invest in markets such as Brazil, China and Russia.

FiberSensing was launched in April 2004 as a spin-off company of the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto (INESC TEC). Now, a few years later, the company is already developing projects with important entities worldwide, including the European Space Agency (ESA), Airbus, and more recently, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).

FiberSensing is developing a monitoring system that will be installed in Airbus’s fuel tanks. Furthermore, in the project developed with the European Space Agency, which will start soon, the company will be responsible for monitoring the launchers that will replace the Ariane rockets.

The company is also involved in the ITER project with the International Organization for Nuclear Fusion Energy, as part of the consortium formed by Smartec (a Swiss company from the Roctestgroup), which will be built in southern France. The aim with this project is to implement a process which will help produce a new energy that is clean and sustainable. This could be a future alternative to conventional energy and could help solve the current energy dependence problem.
