The availability of compact, high power and wavelength tunable optical sources has been a R&D topic for quite long time. Recent advances in optical fiber technology have promoted the increased interest in optical fiber sources, mainly but not only, for telecommunications and remote sensing, both fiber and LIDAR-based, for aeronautical, gas sensing and other applications.
