Interest in project is crucial to boost exports
The 8th Edition of the Symposium on microgrids of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, of the US Department of Energy, ended after a visit to the InovCity, at the Praça de Sertório in Évora, Portugal. Vera Nunes, the communications expert responsible for disseminating the InovGrid project, accompanied the visit and was quite pleased by the interest shown by all participants, especially when the possibility was mentioned of implementing this model in other European countries. This idea was strengthened by João Peças Lopes, a professor and researcher and one of the project’s mentors. He highlighted the potential of what is now considered a case study of a global energy revolution.
Experts discuss "the latest global energy revolution"
Smart grids have been the central theme of the Symposium held in Évora, Portugal’s first city to receive a smart grid. For two days, 125 scientists and experts from around the world discussed the most important topics of the energy revolution: microgeneration, microgrids and electric mobility. The 8th Edition of the Symposium on microgrids – promoted by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy– was organised by INESC Porto, with the support of the EDP and the EFACEC.
Risk and uncertainty in renewable sources of electric power
The development of renewable energy sources poses some challenges when it comes to managing the systems. However, these challenges are not insurmountable.
What is hydro pumping and what are its benefits
Hydro Pumped Storage Power Plants operate on the market and acquire electricity during off-peak periods, at low prices, and this electricity will make the pump engines work.
