The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) will host an international conference from 8 to 10 September – the WikiSym 2008. This is an international conference that will gather for the first time in Portugal the world’s greatest experts on wikis and social software.
INESC Porto participated in the Final International Meeting of the OQR MARE – Regional Framework Operation, “Metropolitan Mobility and Accessibility in the Southern European Regions”, organised by the Commission for the Regional Coordination and Development in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Regions (CCDR-LVT). The meeting took place on 19 June at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL).
Supported by Measure 1.4 of the Operational Programme for the Northern Region, the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto – IVDP (Institute of the Douro and Port Wines), has developed a project that will put an end to an old problem in the Douro region that is caused by the different criteria used by the several institutions to measure the vineyard plots.
The Information and Communication Systems Unit (USIC) is currently developing a study for the implementation of a Mobility Observatory in the Metropolitan Region of Lisbon.

Learning new analytical and dissemination methods for knowledge and information within an organisation in order to promote innovation, creativity and a better knowledge management were some of the main themes discussed at the colloquium "The New Knowledge Forge", organised by Ademar Aguiar (INESC Porto/FEUP) and Mark Bernstein (Eastgate Inc).
A protocol has recently been signed between the Coordenação Nacional para a Infecção VIH/SIDA, IP (National Coordination for HIV/AIDS, PI – Public Institute) and INESC Porto in order to support the development of a computer system for HIV/AIDS, called SI.VIDA.
INESC Porto developed a Collaborative Platform in 2006 for the elaboration and public discussion of the Planos Regionais de Ordenamento do Território - PROT (Regional Plans for Town and Country Planning). This platform is currently being used for the PROTs in the Western, Tejo Valley, Central and Northern Portuguese regions. The first PROTs are reaching the stage of public discussion and it is already possible to assess the design stage.
INESC Porto has been actively working on the development of the “Norte em Rede” Collaborative Platform in collaboration with the Commission for the Coordination and Regional Development in the North of Portugal (CCDR-N).
In the context of the SAGAWEB project, the Information and Communication Systems Unit (USIC) has recently presented the first results of Framework SAGA’s re-engineering.
The Municipalities of Mondim de Basto and Castelo de Paiva were the first ones to enjoy the advantages of the technological platform that reduces costs associated with bureaucratic processes.
The Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering of Porto (INESC Porto) coordinated the development of a computer system that allows municipalities to save paper and time.

Yesterday, an integrated management system of emergencies was presented in the district. The main objective is to analyse systems that can prevent and, in case of emergency, energize the action of the entities involved. The application was developed by UPorto.

The National Coordination for HIV/AIDS infection – Ministry of Health (CNSIDA), intends to develop an information system that can be distributed/used by all the health units that treat people who are infected with HIV/AIDS.
Last 27th of July 2006, INESC Porto established a protocol of collaboration with Porto’s Administration Office in the area of civil protection and rescue operations.
