UTM with three papers published in international journals
The Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) has recently published three more articles in international journals.
The first article, entitled "Optical Music Recognition – State-of-the-Art and Open Issues", was authored by Ana Rebelo, Carlos Guedes and Jaime Cardoso from UTM, and published in the International Journal of Multimedia Information Retrieval. This work is based on OMR (Optical Music Recognition), a research area which has been addressed by Ana Rebelo as part of her PhD studies. This article presents an updated state of the art in this area and a critical discussion on different solutions, as well as future research perspectives.
The second article was published in the Annals of Oncology and is entitled "Long-term cosmetic changes after breast conserving treatment for patients with stage I-II breast cancer and included in the EORTC 'boost versus the boost' trial', also written by Jaime S. Cardoso and Maria Cardoso at UTM. This work is the result of an invitation made to INESC TEC to participate in a study in the Netherlands where the software used – the BCCT.core – was developed by the UTM.
The third article, also authored by these two researchers, is entitled "Recommendations for the Aesthetic Evaluation of Breast Cancer Treatment" and it was published in the Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. This article was one of the results from an international workshop held in Lisbon in May 2011. At this event, the researchers prompted a reflection on this topic which resulted in a series of recommendations later included in the article.
These two articles are part of UTM’s research on breast cancer, particularly in the evaluation of cosmetic treatment results. The Unit's work in this area is internationally recognised, and therefore researchers working in this area are often invited to participate in studies.
